 I focused on improving the design process of complex aerospace products by introducing operational simulations early into the development process. I developed a generic design environment for aerospace products (aircraft, helicopters, drones) that analyzed the planned mission environment in order to feed back critical information to the designer.

I published my work in esteemed aerospace journals and presented at various international conferences.

My simulation model was applied for designing several real unmanned aircraft, one of them being the first 3D-printed aircraft world-wide (see the New Scientist article). It was also applied by the Port of Rotterdam harbor authority to investigate use of drones.

Small problems can lead to unexpected consequences. Modelling helps to mitigate the risk.

Small problems can lead to unexpected consequences. Modelling helps to mitigate the risk.

The real world is complex, not just complicated. Small changes in part of a system can lead to massive and unexpected outcomes somewhere else. Between 2010-2011, I attended a Masters program at the Institute for Complex Systems Simulation and expanded my knowledge on modelling such systems.

Managing and even exploiting complexity is a key challenge to modern businesses as competition and products become ever more sophisticated. Clever modelling can help understand the impact of your business strategy while taking into account what your competitor will do. It is also possible to understand tipping points between, say, maintenance intervals and failures, seeking out an optimized but robust system.

 

I am an expert in spotting and modelling complex problems.

I have substantial knowledge in aerospace design, operations and management.

 

Since my childhood, I have been an aviation geek. In 2005, I turned my passion into action and studied Aerospace Engineering at the University of Southampton. I specialized in Engineering Management and started modelling aeronautical systems from the start. During two summer placements, I created strong bonds with Rolls-Royce and I designed, simulated and built my own engine for my thesis.
